The City of Victoria once had an arts policy that had an objective to encourage the arts in the city.
As a result of this policy and as a result of public arts once being required as a part of private developments, the city now has an extensive collection of works of art.
In 2020, the city engaged an arts appraiser to review the existing collection to determine the condition of the works and a replacement value at that time.
There were some 170 items in the collection with an estimated 2020 value of $6.8 million.
The works are displayed throughout the city but 39 works were in storage.
THE CENTENNIAL FOUNTAIN IS A WORK OF ART AND IS INCLUDED IN THE COLLECTION.
